No-Spend November

Text over a picture of misty trees that reads, "No-Spend November"

Since this blog has started it has been fairly food-centered, which satisfies the full tummy portion of the tag line. But wait, what about the full hearts portion? Well, that’s what this post is excited to kick off!

Today, I want to talk about spending habits. Since I live in a culture that is fueled by materialism I like to occasionally take a step back and bring awareness to what things I’m buying and how much I’m spending. This practice allows me to be more intentional with my purchases. And lord knows, I need to reign in my frivolous shopping every now and again.

For this reason I’m challenging myself to “No-Spend November!” Ta-dah!

Now, you might be thinking, but it’s impossible to not spend aaanything all month. I completely agree. That’s why I’ll be outlining what things I will still be able to buy in November. That will still allow me to live, and stay sane, while evaluating what things I really need in my life.

A quote over a picture of fern leaves reads, "It is not the man who has too little, but the man who craves more, that is poor." by Seneca

Over the next 30 days of November I’ll be able to buy:

  • Food from the grocery store
  • Refills of supplements or home supplies
  • Gas
  • Car tune-up
  • Rent
  • Bills
  • 1 pre-planned coffee date
  • 3 pre-planned dinner dates
  • 3 bought lunches
  • 1 night out (it is my birthday month after all)

I am going to allow the plans that I have already made to go ahead. This exercise isn’t about destroying my social life. I’m just trying to bring more attention to how my activities are structured.

I will also still allow myself to buy up to three lunches while at work. My condo is up for sale these days, and sometimes it is too much strain to cook, pack, and clean everything up before heading to work. This exception will allow me a little grace along the way.

My plan is to be organized and meal prep each week. This will keep me on track, and hopefully everything goes smoothly!

At the end of the 30 days I will report back on how I did. I will share where I struggled and what I learned along the way.

Have you ever done anything like this? What was your experience? Want to join me, feel free!

Wish me luck!

Thanks! It’s gonna take a whole lot of organization. I’m excited to see how it goes.
