Last year I started looking for a coconut oil and cacao chocolate that I could make at home and gobble before my early morning workouts. I was looking for something to give me a little zap awake (thank you cacao) and some fuel for my workout (thank you coconut oil). This is how I stumbled upon a great recipe from Mother Rising.

I like to call these Rocket Fuel Chocolates. They give me a little more motivation to jump out of bed and get my rear into gear for some early exercise.

The ingredients that go into the Rocket Fuel Chocolates. Coconut oil, maple syrup, sea salt, cacao, vanilla, and an ice cube tray

They’re super easy to make, and even easier to eat! Here’s the recipe, I’ll blab on more down below.

Rocket Fuel Chocolates

Prep Time 10 minutes
Servings 12

  • 3/4 cup cacao powder
  • 3/4 cup unrefined coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup (or less, to taste)
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 ice cube tray

  1. If necessary, melt coconut oil in microwave. Heat coconut oil for about 30 seconds, adding 20 seconds at a time, until the oil is all melted.

  2. Mix all of the ingredients together in a small bowl until the mixture is an even consistency.

  3. Pour the mixture into an ice cube tray and place it into the freezer for about 30 - 60 minutes.

  4. Once the chocolates have set then store them in an airtight container in the fridge.

Recipe Notes

Depending on the size of your ice cube tray, you may find each chocolate a little large for one serving. I usually only eat half a chocolate at a time.

These chocolates are great because I don’t find I crave them at all times in the day. Half a chocolate in the morning as a pre-workout usually satisfies me for the whole day.

I also only eat them before my workout for optimal motivation. They aren’t as motivating for me if I can just eat them at any time of the day. Maybe that’s just a funny way my brain works, but limiting them to just before my workout keeps me committed to being active.

Try these Rocket Fuel Chocolates and let me know what you think!
